Phase 1 (Campus to Stinson) construction of the Woodmen Road Corridor Improvement Project is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2008. The start of construction will depend on timing of other projects in Colorado Springs. Please continue to visit this site for updates and information pertaining to schedules, closures, night work and alternate routes.
Construction projects face many challenges. These include balancing duration with inconvenience, reducing noise and dust, responding to unforeseen work conditions, and efficiently adapting the construction to keep the project moving. The City of Colorado Springs and PPRTA have given a lot of thought on how to minimize impacts to the nearby neighborhoods, businesses and the traveling public. A list of goals has been set fourth for the Contractor to follow to help reduce the disruptive nature of this roadway construction project. The goals are as follows:
At this time, the sequencing plan that has been developed meets these goals. To find out more about this sequencing plan please see the boards from Public Open House #6. The construction contractor has the option to follow this construction sequencing plan or develop their own. However, they must make every attempt to stay within the footprint shown and meet the project goals. If the contractor sees a way to save time, budget, and improve public convenience, they may adjust the sequencing plan. One of the purposes of Public Open House #7 will be to present any changes to the sequencing plan that the contractor may make.
